A multifaceted approach through contributions to community development, arts and
culture and other projects, also enhances community impact. Where appropriate,
public/private partnerships are in place to ensure sustainability.

HEALTH AND WELFARE |

Reach For A Dream
Each Hollywood Slot Jackpot won at our properties results in a R500 contribution to
Reach for a Dream. Hospitalised children and those who have life-threatening
diseases have their dreams fulfilled as a result of this relationship. |

Tapologo Aids Hospice
Partnering with various stakeholders, including NGOs, government, traditional leaders
and various other private sector organisations, this programme has enabled the
pooling of resources to achieve a holistic approach to HIV/Aids. |

Emmanuel’s Haven
This Eastern Cape haven has facilities for counselling, care-giving and training.
A hydroponics farm in the property produces vegetables for sustenance. |

Sentahle Home Based Care Centre
In Limpopo, the community of Ga-Maja now has a community centre where they can
access various services designed to alleviate the effects of HIV/Aids. Orphans and the
aged can seek assistance with receiving grants from government. Care givers are
also trained at the centre. |

Shawco Community Health Project
This is a mobile clinic which provides the community with access to basic health
services which they would not normally be able to access. |

Thabo Mbeki Hospice
The hospice provides assistance to members of the East Rand community who are
infected and affected by HIV/Aids. |

EDUCATION |

Skills Development Project –
CRESCO – Carnival City
This is an initiative to develop the
skills of budding entrepreneurs who
were provided with training on how
to run a business. |

Eziko Cooking School
In the Western Cape, the tourist
influx has resulted in the need to
have more skilled employees in
the hospitality industry. This project
enables trainees from the school to
be placed within Sun International
and for internship. This has resulted
in active employment of a number of
students who would otherwise be
unemployed. |

Mma Kodisang Early
Learning Centre
Sun City embarked on the construction
of an early learning centre as part
of the company’s commitment to
community–based education. |

Sekwala Primary School
Meropa Casino in Limpopo invested
in building four classrooms at
Sekwala Primary School in the
community of Ga-Mamabolo in
Polokwane. |

Soundtrack 4 life
Among the many challenges posed
by the implementation of HIV/Aids
projects, is to get young people to
be HIV aware and to change their
behaviour accordingly. GrandWest Casino in Cape Town, supported
by government, established the
Soundtrack 4 Life project to provide
effective HIV/Aids education and
awareness. |

Carnival City sponsored educational

Faranani Hydroponic Project
Meropa Casino assisted with the development of this innovative gardening project to
help the community grow its own vegetables. |

Blisters for bread
This project complements educational initiatives in the Western Cape by providing funding
to feed thousands of schoolchildren who would otherwise be going to school on empty
stomachs. Peninsula School Feeding, who runs this feeding scheme, has a sound donor
base and is well supported by government and other private organisations. |

Police station in Zone 2
The Windmill Casino in Bloemfontein built a police station to assist with crime
prevention in the area around the unit. |

Men on the side of the Road Project
Unemployment was identified as one of the key challenges in the vicinity of Carousel.
This project was put into place to upskill unemployed matriculants in brick-laying and
tiling to give them a better chance at formal employment. |

NSRI-National Sea Rescue Institute
The NSRI has a major impact on
communities in our coastal resorts who
depend on the sea for their livelihood
and recreation. The NSRI provides this
service to the public at no charge and
assistance to the organisation enables
it to continue providing this critical
service to the community and visitors.
Investments made this year assisted
with operational expenses. |

delivers value in developing skills critical
to the tourism industry. |

to the Wildlife Trust in order to help

SASCOC – Paralympics – SA- sponsoring of the paralympic team
Sun International is one of the major sponsors of the South African Paralympic team
who will compete in Beijing this year. The Paralympics Sponsors’ Forum, which
includes Sun International, Vodacom, Pick n Pay, DaimlerChrysler, Nedbank, Coca-
Cola, SAA, Sasol, Telkom and Puma, ensures that South Africa will be well
represented at this prestigious international sporting showcase. |

Arts and Culture Trust
As founding members of the Arts and Culture Trust, Sun International plays an
important role in the development of arts and culture in South Africa. Since 1996,
Sun International has supported more than 500 projects in all disciplines throughout
South Africa through the Trust. |

Bootlaces Soccer Academy
The Sibaya Casino in KwaZulu-Natal supported soccer development in local
communities. Sibaya Bootlaces Football Academy participated in the 20th
‘Metropolitan Premier Cup’ in Cape Town over the Easter Holidays. |

outside South Africa were involved in a
number of CSI initiatives, including: |

| Botswana |
| Gaborone Sun built a Community Hall
in Palapye as a focal point of the
community and provides a venue for
community meetings, functions, youth
activities and training. |

| Namibia |
The Mount Sinai Centre assists HIV
positive mothers in the community.
It focuses on educating HIV positive mothers and provides formula milk and
food hampers for babies to ensure their
necessary nutrition. The centre was
supported through fundraising.
The Hope Village Clinic provides refuge
and support to women, orphans and
vulnerable children affected by HIV/Aids. |

| Lesotho |
| The Beautiful Gate Home was completed
during this financial year and the clinic
will help alleviate the scourge of
HIV/Aids and other diseases. |

| Swaziland |
| The Ezulwini Clinic was built to assist
the community in the Ezulwini area who are infected or affected by various
medical conditions. This was developed
in collaboration with the Department
of Health, who now runs the community
clinic. |

| Zambia |
| We continue to play a key role in
meeting various needs of the community
in Livingstone. Sustainable projects
which have been in place include the
hydroponics farm, the Mukuni Basic
School and the Lubasi orphanage, which
were assisted during this financial year. |
